Fireside Festival Improvisation Workshop
The Fireside Festival, a weekend-long festival of improvisation, will host the work of Phffft! and other Seattle-area accomplished improvisers as well as participants from a six week improvisation workshop conducted prior to the festival. The performances will take place February 16 and 17 at Camp Long. Through the workshop participants will find and craft uninhibited intuitive reactions into intelligent compositional design that is intimate, articulate and emotionally satisfying using a simple and fun technique called The Viewpoints.
Dance Empowerment Project for At-Risk Teens
Beginnning February 13, 2007, Phffft members will work with The Delridge Neighborhood Development Association (DNDA) and The Youngstown Cultural Arts Center to provide at-risk youth ages 12-18, a unique opportunity. Phffft! and Youngstown will work with 10-16 youth from DNDA's affordable housing projects to create dance works inspired by the youths’ life experience and present them in a weekend performance completely run by the teens themselves. Members of The Phffft! Company will provide the at-risk youth participants training in Modern Dance, Ballet, Contact Improvisation, Contemporary Dance, choreography and composition.
Tour University Premiere
Performances at the Francis Rabelais in Tour France will unveil the new collaborative work between Collectif Entre Deux and Phffft! The performance will take place in Tour, France March 23, 24 and 25th, 2007.
The People’s Project
The Phffft! Company will create a series of new works with 3-4 members of the general public with no prior experience in dance, but with a desire to bring their ideas to the stage in the form of new dance works. A video will be made of the project simultaneously as the process occurs. A final performance will present each of the culminating works with the selected members of the public present and a short reality TV-style video of the process. A question and answer period with the selected members of the public will be apart of the performance experience. The performance would take place sometime in April, after returning from France.
12-12-1 Improvisation Project
A citywide performance marathon to bring the improvisational work (and some choreography) of Phffft! to 12 different sites/venues once a month for 12 months throughout the city of Seattle, hence the slogan 12- 12-1. Each site will be scoped out and a site-specific work designed to take place in a highly visible and populated environment. The projected project start date is September 2007 and end August 2008.

Art in Nature Festival
Phffft performs two works at this festival, one at Camp Long on August 26 at 11:30 and another at 1:30 at Youngstown on the same day. Both performances are free with a $5 suggested donation. The performance at Camp Long will be outside in the field and have a special installation created hanging over the field. The second performance will be using the movement studio at Youngstown, where audience members will look through the windows of the dance studio to see the performances on the hill outside through the large row of picture windows that flank the studios East side.
Roseburg Dance Festival
Phffft! will perform Talk Circle and Modern Barbarism at The Roseburg Festival in Roseburg, OR alongside the work of other companies from the Pacific Northwest.
The Seattle International Dance Festival
The festival will present the work of Phffft! alongside that of French company, Collective Entre Deux and possibly one or two other international companies. Artistic Director Veronique Sole and Cyrus Khambatta met after performances in Europe last year, where Cyrus enamoured with the work of CED, subsequently made a trip to Tour to discuss teh detials of an exchange. This Festival would present a split bill of the two companies and possibly a snippet of the collaborative work and would take place November 10, 11 and 12 at 8pm at the Broadway Performance Hall located at 1625 Broadway in Seattle, WA Tickets prices not curently set.
Dance Lab Series - Western Washington University
Fresh from perofrmances at Braodway Performance Hall, the split bill performance of Phffft! and Collectif Entre Deux will tour to Ving at WWU located at 311 E. Hooly Street in Bellingham where audiences will get a chance to view the two companies back to back. The performances take place November 17-19 time TBA.
French Leg of Tour
Phffft! will perform its most recent work, Pathology and other reepertory at Tour University in France December 5th and at The Centre Choreographic National (CCN) December 9th. The CCN is Frances highest level arts organization dedicated to dance. There are about 150 of these theatres throughout France. |
