Creating Partnerships for Arts in Education

The Phffft Dance Theatre Company has created partnerships with many local arts education organizations designed to bring arts to underserved children and youth. Artscorps, Nature Consortium, BAYFEST, Delridge Neighborhood Development Association and The Youngstown Cutural Arts Center to Through these partnerships, the company has provided programs in locations such as High Point Housing Development Community in West Seattle, Ranier Vista on Martin Luther King Drive, Showalter Middle School in Tukwila, Cooper Elementary School in West Seattle, White Center (King County) Parks Department and others. Together these programs serve children/youth speaking over 30 languages in a diverse geographic region of the city.

A new International Collaboration from Amsterdam, Holland

Following on the heels of its year-long collaboration project with Collectif Entre Deux of Tours, France, the company has initiated a new international collaboration project with Suzy Blok and Dancers from Amseterdam, Netherlands. Suzy and Cyrus met at a Dance USA sponsored Leadership for Artistic Directors

 

program (for which Cyus was awarded a Paul Allen scholarship to attend) in the summer of 2006. The two hit it off immediately and began discussing the possibility of the exchange. In April of 2007, Suzy was awarded a grant from the Dutch government to come to the US to work with Phffft! dancers for one week. During this time, the two directors, planned the upcoming collaboration. IN the first installment of the international project, Suzy and her company will perform at Beyond the Threshold: Seattle International Dance Festival on November 30-December 2, 2007.

Cyrus Choreographs new work for Spectrum Dance Theatre Company

In March of 2006, Cyrus choreographed for Donald Byrd's Spectrum Dance Theatre in a new series called the Northwest Best Studio Series. Donald has asked Cyrus to create another work on his company for the Studio Series to be presented Novemebr 9-11 and 16-17 2007 at Spectrum Dance Theatre's Madrona Dance Studio.
